What is a Shooting Panel Wireline?

The Shooting Panel Wireline is a ground control device used in oil logging and completion operations to control the ignition of downhole perforators, depth calibration, signal monitoring and safety protection. It is the "brain" of the perforation operation system, usually working in coordination with logging cables, downhole perforation guns, magnetic positioning instruments and other equipment to achieve precise, safe and efficient execution of perforation operations.

Core function-Transmit the ignition signal to the downhole perforator and monitor the status of the entire perforation circuit.

Working scenario-Mainly used for cable perforation and tubing perforation operations, connecting the downhole perforation gun through a cable at the wellhead.

How Does a Shooting Panel Wireline Work?

Step 1: System Self-check & Initialization

After startup, the panel conducts a self-check to ensure that all modules are working properly.

Step 2: Depth Calibration & Positioning

The signal of the casing coupling is obtained through the magnetic positioning tool and compared with the logging curve to determine the precise position of the perforating gun in the target layer.

Step 3: Perforation Parameter Settings

The operator sets parameters such as ignition voltage, current and ignition mode on the panel.

Step 4: Perforation Ignition Control

When the perforating gun reaches the predetermined depth, the operator issues an ignition command, and the panel sends a high-voltage ignition signal to the downhole perforating gun through a cable to detonate the perforating bomb.

Step 5: Confirm Results

After successful ignition, there is usually a change in the status indicator on the panel. Meanwhile, in combination with on-site phenomena such as wellhead vibration or pressure changes, a comprehensive judgment should be made on whether the perforation operation has been successfully completed.

The Advantages & Disadvantages of Shooting Panel Wireline

The technical characteristics of Shooting Panel Wireline determine their value and limitations in specific operation scenarios.

Advantages
◆ Direct Operation & Instant Response–Once the system is energized, the fire command is transmitted almost instantaneously, free of delays caused by complex protocol conversion.

◆ Mature Technology & High Reliability–Refined through decades of field use, its circuitry is simple and straightforward, and its core components are inherently stable.

◆ Wide Applicability–Suitable for perforating operations in vertical, deviated, and horizontal wells.

◆ Enhanced Safety–LED status indicators and over-current protection significantly reduce the risk of inadvertent firing.

Disadvantages

◆ Safety Relies on Human Intervention–In wireline perforating, if no tubing is present, a blowout or other emergency cannot be mitigated by immediate circulation/kill-weight fluid, resulting in inherently lower safety margins.

◆ Easily Disturbed by External Interference–When using electric ignition, it is vulnerable to interference from radio waves, noise, etc. During operation, radio silence is often required, and operations such as electric welding that may cause electromagnetic interference should be stopped.

Conclusion

The Shooting Panel Wireline is a classic and indispensable piece of surface control equipment in perforating operations. In conventional-well perforating, it still holds a prominent position thanks to its direct, fast and reliable characteristics.
